Adding a little something vintage to your look can take you from 0 to 100 real quick. Here are my tips to keep in mind the next time you’re on the hunt…

Though I scored this Hermès gem from mom’s closet (sorry, mom!), I’ve been able to find my fair share of vintage treasures thanks to these 3 simple rules:

Rule #1. Size Doesn’t Matter. Forget what the label says and go by measurements instead. Sizes have changed over the years so don’t let the number on the tag fool you.

Rule #2. Light It Up. When dealing with vintage pieces, I always hold the item up to the nearest window to make sure it doesn’t have any stains, holes or unraveled hems. Of course things can be dry cleaned or tailored but it’s best to know what you’re getting yourself into before making the buy.

Rule #3. Love It. Make sure you’re actually going to wear the item so it doesn’t sit in your closet. I know, right? Duh. Trends change and for that reason, I like my vintage real classic; scarves, leather jackets + bags.
